"Addition" to the House

We are thinking about building a garage/carport (haven't decided if we want to enclose it now or maybe later down the road) that will be attached to the house. In theory, this two-car garage/carport would be off the North side of the house by the dinning room & kitchen. I would like the carport to lead into a door in the butler's pantry, which would allow for one to get to the cars in the pouring rain without getting soaked--which is IMPOSSIBLE in the current set up.
This is an idea we have found on the internet from a construction company. We would like our carport to look like this. The tricky thing is there being enough room from the side of the house to the property line. We are having a local construction company to do the estimate & measurement.

After we move the cars from the back of the yard, we would like to enclose ALL of the backyard with a privacy fence to extend the yard area for the dogs--and humans! If we can give the dogs their own area to enjoy, then we can enjoy our part of the yard with the pool more as well. After the dogs have been "moved" to their area, I'd like to landscape the yard. Right now it is very, very undesirable. I don't like hanging out in the backyard because it lacks privacy & sharing it with the dogs sometimes makes it unbearable in the summer heat!

With the landscaping, I will be using Terra Cotta, a local garden shop and landscape designer. I know that I will need something hassle free & something that I cannot kill! I do not have a green thumb at all.
