Master Bedroom Update

We finally decided on a color to paint the master bedroom--hydrangea blue. It is such a huge difference from the "flesh" color that was left over from the former owners. The presence of the "flesh" color paint is almost completely eradicated from the house.

I have a few decorating ideas for the room, but I have not bought any accessories for the room. The month of July will be dedicated to decorating and finishing the room. I'll be going to Richtex Fabrics on Wetumpka Highway for my fabrics--this store is one of the best fabric stores in the area.

I found a discount bedding store online that has very nice hotel bedding collections. I want to get the shams monogrammed and sew some toss pillows to go with it. I want something simple, clean, and crisp on the bed. I want the master bedroom to look very luxurious and elegant with a touch of country charm--if that makes ANY sense.

I have repainted the antique vanity and stool in a high-gloss white to match the oil based trim in the room. I want to recover the stool in a coordinating fabric, but I have yet to choose which style fabric.

Our current bedroom furniture looks SO much better in the room. The dark wood of the furniture and antique-look gives the room the country-charm & elegance of the dark wood.

I will be very pleased with the room when it all comes together. I will post photos as soon as the room is perfection!

Family History of the House

Yesterday Chip and I were visited by a family that previously lived in our home. It was great hearing all their stories and memories they had with the house. The two sisters of the family were the ones that came by too see the house. I invited them in and that's where I learned so much about the house. Many of the "upgrades" (i.e., extra closets, flooring, pool, and even the cement patio set!) were constructed by their father.

It was so much fun to walk through each room of the house & to hear what home improvements were new, what had been there, and where they had locked up their brother (in the attic, of course!). It was such a great way to spend a Saturday evening. I enjoyed hearing them talk about all the memories they had growing up in this house.

After we talked about what was in the house, we spent a little while talking about all the "upgrades" Chip and I, our family, wanted to contribute to the house. The sisters seemed to like our ideas and thought they would be wonderful. I cannot wait until they come again; hopefully by their next visit, major home improvements will be made (i.e., carport, kitchen, fencing, landscaping, etc.)!

Chip and I have a lot more home renovation in store for us in the next 5 years. I can't wait!

"Addition" to the House

We are thinking about building a garage/carport (haven't decided if we want to enclose it now or maybe later down the road) that will be attached to the house. In theory, this two-car garage/carport would be off the North side of the house by the dinning room & kitchen. I would like the carport to lead into a door in the butler's pantry, which would allow for one to get to the cars in the pouring rain without getting soaked--which is IMPOSSIBLE in the current set up.
This is an idea we have found on the internet from a construction company. We would like our carport to look like this. The tricky thing is there being enough room from the side of the house to the property line. We are having a local construction company to do the estimate & measurement.

After we move the cars from the back of the yard, we would like to enclose ALL of the backyard with a privacy fence to extend the yard area for the dogs--and humans! If we can give the dogs their own area to enjoy, then we can enjoy our part of the yard with the pool more as well. After the dogs have been "moved" to their area, I'd like to landscape the yard. Right now it is very, very undesirable. I don't like hanging out in the backyard because it lacks privacy & sharing it with the dogs sometimes makes it unbearable in the summer heat!

With the landscaping, I will be using Terra Cotta, a local garden shop and landscape designer. I know that I will need something hassle free & something that I cannot kill! I do not have a green thumb at all.
