Master Bedroom

HGTV Rate-My-Space Portfolio of Master Bedroom

The master "suite" is hardly a suite--it does have a bathroom near the bedroom, but it is a "jack-and-jill" bathroom shared with what was formerly the third bedroom (now family room).

I do envision closing off the two other entrances (from family room & kitchen) & creating a master bathroom. When I say master bath, I only wish I could have what I dream of, but with a historical home & a bungalow at that--a true master bath is hard to come by with the space constraints. I would like to do as much as possible in the long & narrow space that is currently our bathroom & dressing area--which is awkward because it has no door. Forget the bathroom, I need to focus on the bedroom.

We are looking to paint the master bedroom a lighter shade of gray/blue. I would like it to look like a cloudy day--I would really like to paint the ceiling a charcoal gray--it would really work because our ceilings are very high. White trim, which requires painting the creamy-yellow trim that is up now. The decor would change to brown to match the curtains, which I am not sure if they are staying. It is really up for suggestion. I have found bedding that I really do like--with the addition of monogramming.

Right now, the state of our master bedroom is a -1 on the Romance scale & definitely a -10 on the sophisticated & elegant style that I would like to achieve in the room.

Updated pictures will be up as soon as the room is finished. Other photos of the room are located on HGTV.

First Project - Family Room

Before
It was the former owner's twelve-year-old daughter's room. It was cute for a pre-teen, but not a family room.
After - We (finally) finished painting on April 7th!
New "Quite Red" paint color with fresh white trim. Black & white panel curtains, that my mother & I sewed together. We have not added any new furniture, but we probably will not. We are thinking about having slipcovers made for the sofa and arm chair. We do need to find a coffee table, but we are still searching for the right one.

We also use the room as an office area as well as the family room. It's in a nice location, right off the kitchen. It is a nice place to relax after work & watch TV.

We are looking for suggestions for this room. It is our first completed project in the house. I really feel like this room will set the tone for the rest of the house--it reflects our style more than any other room in the house.

After staging & preparing our house in Tuscaloosa for the real estate market, I think I could start a staging business. I know homes that are for sale in this economy & market could really use the extra boost that staging could give it. If you are interested in staging your home, I would like the opportunity to get my feet wet in the business. I did sale our house in Tuscaloosa in 12 days after we put it on the market.

I think we have decided on finishing this room in the next month & then beginning on the master suite. Before pictures coming soon.
